Leland A. Thane, 80, of Haskell, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2016 at a local nursing home. A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 am, Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Cemetery under the direction of Haskell Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 pm, Monday, March 14, 2016 at Haskell Funeral Home 2 Avenue D, Haskell, Texas. Condolences may be made at www.haskellfuneralhometx.com.
Leland was born April 30, 1935 in Stamford, Texas, the son of the late Theophil August Wilhelm Thane and Hilma Stremmel Thane. He graduated from Stamford High School. Leland started his career as a mechanic while farming at night, he then began farming full time. He started carpentry in 1985, owning his own business, Thane Construction. He then retired in 2012. On November 1, 1953, he married Janet Sylvester Thane, she preceded him in death August 26, 1989. He later married Joe Ann Lansford Thane, April 15, 1990, she preceded him in death February 15, 2012. He was a member of the Jaycee's in Stamford and the Sons of Hermann in Old Glory. Leland was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing dominos at the Senior Citizens Center and carpentry work for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Janet Sylvester Thane and JoeAnn Lansford Thane; daughter-in-law, Janet Wallace Thane; and grandson, Michael Halliburton.
Leland is survived by his children, Kerry Thane of Abilene, TX, Jeff Thane and wife Cherryl of Midland, TX, Marc Thane and wife Michelle of Haskell, TX, Robbie Carpenter and wife Kay of Van Alstyne, TX, John Halliburton and wife Mary of Gardendale, TX, and Cynthia Culpepper and husband Richie of Haskell, TX. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Chelsie and Cody Polk, Josh and Tiffany Moffett, Aerial, Shalee, Haley, Brandon, Casey, Brittney, Yvonne and Lindsay; 13 great grandchildren, Tristan, Leyton, Liam, Madison, Zalend, Cameron, Selina, Josh, Legand, Bronx, Lyric, Payton, and Carson; brother, Melvin Thane and wife Wanda of Abilene, TX; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends.
