Nancy Boone (Cheaney) Mickler

June 1, 1932 — September 7, 2023

Nancy Boone Cheaney Mickler, 91, formerly of Haskell, passed away, Thursday, September 7th, 2023 in Lakeway, Texas.  A graveside service will be held at 2pm, Sunday, September 10th at Willow Cemetery in Haskell Texas under the direction of Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home and Haskell Funeral Home.  Condolences may be made at www.haskellfuneralhometx.com.

Nancy was born June 1, 1932 in Brownwood, Texas, the daughter of the late Mary Rubena (Ruby) Rountree Cheaney and Joe Bailey Cheaney.  In 1950, she graduated from Brownwood High School.  She furthered her education by attending and graduating from Hardin Simmons University in 1953.  While in college, she sang with the Ewell Porter’s Acapella Choir and sang in a girl’s trio with the HSU marching band when they toured Europe and performed for the American Troops.  On July 28th, 1953, she married an HSU “true cowboy” James Ross Mickler, a champion bareback rider in college.  James Ross was a coach and teacher in several Texas schools as well.  Nancy, best known as “Nana” taught school for 40 years in 8 districts and 11 schools – all in Texas shaping many lives and influencing all lives that she touched.

She was preceded in death by her parents and spouse, James Ross Mickler on November 11th, 1980.

Nancy is survived by her sons Jim Bob (Pat) Mickler and Joe (Lisa) Mickler; and daughter, Marsie (Dave) Mickler Stauch; grandchildren J (Kristen) Mickler, Josh (Shay) Mickler, Nathan (Hande) Mickler, Tracy Mickler, Anna (Trent) Weeks, Sarah (Paul) Meyer, Mary Mickler, Jacob Mickler, Gretchen (Brian) Carpenter, and Andrew (Krysta) Stauch; Great grandchildren Dylan, Ethan, Wyatt, Caleb, Livi, Milo, & Elijah Mickler, Juda & Isaiah Weeks, Daniel & Justin Meyer, Maggie & Connor Carpenter, and Colter Stauch.
