Billy Don Ellis, 73, of Haskell, Texas, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2025 at his home. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Condolences may be made at www.haskellfuneralhometx.com.

Billy was born September 13, 1952, in Brownwood, Texas, the son of George Alancin Ellis, Jr. and Era Ellen (Oxley) Ellis. After graduating from high school Billy honorably served his country in the US Navy.

Billy was known for his quick wit, his straightforward “tell-it-like-it-is” nature, and one-liners that brought laughter to those around him. He was a country boy raised on a farm and enjoyed gardening and learning about herbal remedies. He was a dreamer and an idea man. He was mechanically inclined and never afraid to innovate, always working on projects or ideas that he believed could make life better. His curiosity extended into technology as well, and he even assisted the engineering class and robotics programs of a local high school by connecting them with American Electric Power projects.

After his military service, he began his welding career which spanned many years. He went back to school and earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Arkansas. For a time, he taught at Tulsa Welding School which was a role he especially enjoyed mentoring young adults. Later, he transitioned into welding inspection, and most recently, worked as a Quality Assurance Manager at American Electric Power (AEP) through Aerotek. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, creativity, and humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Peggy Patrick Jackson.

Billy is survived by his daughter, Megan Ellis of Fort Collins, CO; son, Chad Ellis and wife, Amanda of Silverthorn, CO; granddaughter, Cayman Pingley of Silverthorn, CO; brother-in-law, Lee Jackson; nieces, Kelly Grissom and Stacy Robinson; nephew, Jett Robinson; grand nieces and nephews; the mother of his children, Jennifer Ellis of Fayetteville, AR; extended family; and a host of dear friends, including his two very special colleagues, Becki Connel and Senica Pulowski.
