Bobby Gene Rexrode

January 27, 1937 — September 19, 2021

Bobby Rexrode, our Dad, 84, of Haskell, left for Heaven on Sunday, September 19, 2021, sitting beside his bride of 63 years at their home. The Life Celebration will be held at Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church in Haskell, Texas, on Saturday, September 25, 2021. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m., with the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be made at www.haskellfuneralhometx.com.
Dad was born January 27, 1937, in Plainview, Texas; the son of the late Marcus D. Rexrode and Ruby Stephens Rexrode. He graduated from Haskell High School in 1955, and from Baylor University in 1959, where he played baseball for the Baylor Bears. Dad's love of baseball was influenced by his Uncle Wilcey Moore who played on the 1927 Yankees with Babe Ruth! Even more exciting than that, on September 7, 1958, he married the love of his life, Lynda Perrin in Haskell, Texas!!
This amazing man answered to Bobby, Dad, Papaw, and Coach. His faith and relationship with Jesus came first. He was a devout Believer who confessed his love for Jesus Christ in his words and actions, always. He loved Mom more than life itself, and took tender, loving care of her from the day they met until he took his last breath. As a matter of fact, he had just made their nightly cups of tea minutes before his journey to Heaven. This precious man loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with a fierce, mighty love that made us feel as if each one of us were the only one in his life. Those that called him ‘Coach' were family to him. He loved and treasured each relationship that was formed during his career. His influence touched so many lives in many different ways, as he inspired each one to be more than they believed they could ever be. He made a difference, and that was so important to him. His love was BIG, real and genuine for every person that God brought into his life!
Dad's career was spent teaching history, civics, biology, and many would say music; and, coaching football, basketball, track, baseball, and softball. This passion of his began in Olney, then took us to Archer City, Bowie, Irving, Sherman, Crowley, Pottsboro, Tom Bean, and back to Sherman. In 1996, Dad, Mom and Mark opened The Red River Ball Yard, a baseball/softball training facility, where Dad continued to instruct and inspire young athletes. All of his students/athletes were important to him and many of these relationships led to life-long friendships. He continued to mentor until the time of his passing. He was a deacon in the Baptist church and a member of Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church.
Dad was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Rexrode and brother, Jimmy Rexrode.
Dad is survived by our Sweet Mom, Lynda Rexrode of Haskell; daughter, Gena Rexrode of Pottsboro; son, John Mark Rexrode of Sherman; grandchildren, Lauren O'Rear and husband Cass of Abu Dhabi; UAE; Tyler Huntsman and wife Reeca of Pottsboro; Heather Rexrode of Sherman; Ryan Heflin and wife Camillea of Coleman, Oklahoma; John-Paul Flanary of McKinney; Noah Flanary of New York City; great-grandchildren, Jade, Isaiah, Ellis, Lane, Moses, Ahvevah, Lawson and Remi. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Stephens of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; numerous nieces, nephews; and, a host of friends and students/athletes that he called family.
Memorials may be made to Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church, Playground fund 1600 N. 1st St Haskell, TX 79521.
