Gaston was born October 9, 1940 in Haskell to the late B. C. and Delia Mae Tidrow. After attending Haskell High school, he enlisted in the Army, serving for 3 years. He was proud of his military background and very patriotic. On November 14, 1961, he married Willie Faye Petrich. Residing in Haskell, they became active in the community. Gaston was a member of the Jaycees and was honored with Jaycee of the Year and Key Man of the Year. He served as chairman of the War Memorial on the Courthouse Square, the Rodeo, the Carnival, and other committees. While he enjoyed watching his children in their activities, he did his part by coaching Little League and Little Dribblers and becoming a lifetime member of the Texas Tech Dad's Association. Also, he was an active member of East Side Baptist Church serving on many committees and driving the church van.
Pawpaw will be remembered for many golf/hunting trips with friends and fishing, dominoes, and spade games with the grands and kids. He loved to entertain family with his grilling skills and fish frying.
He wore many occupational hats. In 1963, he became a postman for the USPS delivering mail until he became partners in McTid's Lumber Yard in 1976. At this time he began a career as a home builder and developer. He became a full-time farmer and rancher in 1983. Gaston loved being out in nature and tending to the cattle.
