Edward “Doyle” Strickland was born April 26, 1941 in Goree, Texas He was the eldest child of Marion Edward Strickland and Pearl Pauline (Hargrove) Strickland. He passed away September 28, 2025 at his home in Gun Barrel City.

Doyle graduated from Rochester High School, where he excelled as a football player for the Steers. Shortly after graduation he joined the Dallas Fire Department, where he served for 29 years and retired in 1990 as captain at Station 51. Upon retirement, Doyle spent his time taking care of his property and home in Rochester. When not at home, he was busy chasing his grandkids around the country watching them compete in sports.

Doyle enjoyed the outdoors. Fishing and hunting were at the top of his list. He most enjoyed those times with his son, grandsons and great-grandson. He made many hunting trips to Colorado with friends where he served as cook to the hunters.

Doyle is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Doris Woodall, Iris Monk and brother Derryl Strickland.

Survivors include his sons, Kevin Strickland and wife Sharon of Gun Barrel City, Kendall Strickland and wife Laurie of Stamford and daughter, Kimla Kinney of Haskell. Grandchildren are Brandon Strickland, Gun Barrel City, Braden Strickland, Gun Barrel City, Kacey Roberson and husband Dustin, Little River, Alabama, Kelsey Strickland, Haskell, Bethany Dyson and husband Glenn, Gun Barrel City, and Kaylee Kinney, Lubbock. Great-grandchildren are Dexton and Annalise Dyson, Logan and Lila Roberson and Kaydon and Carter Weaver. Doyle is also survived by his sisters, Regenia Lane, Haskell and Mary Evelyn Hicks, Abilene, along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Strickland, Braden Strickland, Leland Strickland, Greg Strickland, Michael Lane and Brad Lane. Honorary pallbearers are Monty Strickland, Mark Strickland, Randy Strickland, Logan Roberson, Dexton Dyson, Kaydon Weaver and Carter Weaver.

Visitation will be held at the Haskell Funeral Home, 2 Avenue D, Haskell, on Friday, October 3, from 6-8 pm. A Graveside service will be at Rochester Cemetery on Saturday, October 4 at 10 am with Glenn Dyson, Jr officiating. Condolences may be made at www.haskellfuneralhometx.com.
