Edwin "Jim" Eugene Hollingsworth

Edwin Eugene "Jim" Hollingsworth, 81, was born January 22, 1939, in Chillicothe TX to Edgar Lee and Inez Jeclia (Farris) Hollingsworth. He passed due to complications of COVID19 and dementia in Knox City, TX on Sunday morning, January 10, 2021, during a beautiful snowstorm. A private burial was held on Friday, January 15, 2021, in Rochester Cemetery, next to his great grandfather, and led by Jason Isbell, Minister of First Christian Church. A Masonic Service was led by son-in-law Dr. Scott Burgess. A Memorial Service will be held 2pm, Saturday, January 30, 2021 at the Wooden Nickle in Knox City. Jim was an all-star athlete and Golden Gloves Boxer at several high schools in West Texas, graduating from Vernon High School. He studied and played football at several colleges, graduating from Sul Ross University and performing Masters degree work at Miami University in Ohio.
Jim led a diverse life, serving as coach and teacher, a member of the Texas State Board of Education, an inventor, an aircraft owner and pilot, as well as the publisher of the DeSoto TX Journal newspaper, the author and publisher of the American Women's Bicentennial Cookbook in 1976 and as a roofing contractor.
Brother Jim Hollingsworth was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on March 15, 1963, at Vernon Lodge #655 and was a member of the Frontier Lodge #766 in Alpine. On June 10, 1972, he achieved the 32nd degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite. Brother Jim continued his walk in Masonry by mentoring his son David and son-in-law Scott at Orient Lodge #905 in Knox City TX.
He moved from the Dallas area to Jud in December 1996, saying he was finally home in the Haskell County he loved. Jim will be remembered by many for his loving nature, kind smile and his New Year's Eve fireworks displays, in prior years, in honor of his grandfather.
Jim was a proud member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas as a descendant of pioneer Joseph H. Ferguson. He was an elder of the First Christian Church, Haskell TX.
Jim is survived by his partner of 33 years and wife of 21 years Margo (Troyer) Hollingsworth and by Nancy (Garner) Hollingsworth, the mother of three of his children. Surviving children and descendants are: Daughter Pamela Kay (Tim) Thompson of Kaufman; granddaughter Jessica (Colin) Broome and children Reilly Roberson, Karoline Brockway and Beckham Broome; granddaughter Hillary (Dalton) Blazek and Lily Drake; granddaughter Kendall (Richard) Tucker and Jack and Joe, grandson Tyler Thompson, all of the Kaufman TX area, and grandson Weston Thompson of OR. Daughter Catharine (Scott) Burgess of Jud and children Hunter Burgess (Bailey Duggan) and Grace Burgess (Kel Harrison). Son David Eugene Hollingsworth and children Alexandra, Victoria and Collin Hollingsworth of Jud. Daughter Sherry (David) Havins of Wichita Falls; grandson Brent (Miranda) of Henrietta and Ethan and Rylan of Wichita Falls; grandson Chris (Lauren) and Kaisen and Mason of Holliday; granddaughter Lyndsi (Michael) Parker and Colton (Diana), Jackson, Colby and Preston Parker of Wichita Falls. Also surviving Jim are his siblings Billy Joe Hollingsworth of Grapevine TX, Barbara (Ben) McNulty of Gordonville TX , Bonnie Fisk of Columbus OH, Vivian Grammer of Granbury TX, Virginia Sue Hamilton of Wichita Falls TX, Raymond (Ginger) Hollingsworth of Libby MT and sister-in-law Kay Troyer of West Tawakoni TX. Jim's special companions, Joe and Max, were constantly beside him and will miss him dearly, along with a host of friends, relatives and loved ones, especially those lives he touched through his years of helping others along the path of sobriety.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved grandparents William Edward and LueDella (Ferguson) Hollingsworth and Joseph Newton and Lena (Medford) Farris, one sister Debroah Hollingsworth West, special lifelong friends Joe White, Jerry Barton and Buddy Strickland, brothers-in-law Jack Fisk, Bill Grammer, Mickey Hamilton and Kim Troyer, and in-laws Ralph and Elinor (Selders) Troyer.
The family wishes to thank all those who helped Jim during his illnesses, especially Dr Leon Joplin, the Knox County Hospital District team, Knox County Home Health aides and Hospice of Wichita Falls. Special thanks to all those who helped Jim during the last several years of his declining health. Our love and prayers go out for all who are fighting these difficult battles.
