Elaine was born September 24, 1944 in Rotan, Texas, the daughter of A. D. Turner and Ruby Cayce Turner. On June 17, 1962, she married Charles D. Reed in Rotan, Texas. He preceded her in death on November 7, 1989. She was a dedicated member of the Haskell Church of Christ. Elaine faithfully served as the church secretary at the Haskell Church of Christ for 14 years. She built a business from her love of crafting selling her arts and crafts at local craft shows, through wholesale markets and at her booth at Kaleidoscope for many years. She then owned and operated Plum Cute, where she became famous for her delicious chicken salad sandwiches. In her later years, she traveled for a merchandising company until officially retiring in 2024.
She was loving, kind, and always full of joy. She loved people, never met a stranger, and made friends everywhere she went. She was creative and talented, making many loved arts and crafts for her family, friends, and in her business. A devoted Dallas Cowboy’s fan, Elaine brought passion into every aspect of life. She enjoyed sharing her humorous, quick-witted stories of the day on Facebook and even published a book, “Elaine’s World,” capturing her memorable sayings and experiences. A second book is in the works to be shared after future publication.
Above all, Elaine loved her Lord. She gave glory to God in all she accomplished and looked for God moments throughout her day. Blessed with a beautiful voice, she loved to sing and worship. She was deeply devoted to her family and selflessly sacrificed to make sure they had everything they needed and more.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband in 1989 and her son, Keith Reed.
Elaine is survived by son, Cayce Reed and wife, Dianne and daughter, Holly Reed all of Haskell; grandchildren, Alexis Reed Smith and Austin of Abilene, Dent Reed, Dalianne Wilson and Chase, Devery Reed, Megan Bailey, and Turner Wade all of Haskell; great-grandchildren, Tristan and Dalton Smith of Abilene and Chloe and Courtney Wilson of Haskell; and sister, Helen Waddell and husband, Jimmy of Bowie.
