Jay was born on November 16, 1972 in Abilene, Texas, the son of Sue Cox Miller and the late, David Melvin Miller. He attended Haskell High School and graduated with the class of 1991. He served as a prison guard & security officer with TDCJ for 17 years. He was a member of the Haskell Bass Club & the Still Waters Bass Club of Abilene. He was a member of the Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church.

Jay was deeply loved and had a remarkable gift for loving others in return. One of his greatest passions in life was spending time outdoors, especially hunting and fishing with his Grandad Miller and his father, Dave—a tradition that he carried on with his daughter, Shelby.

Jay had a way of making friends everywhere he went. His bright smile could light up a room and instantly make anyone feel at home. He cherished his daily visits with his mom, Sue, always looking after her, and especially enjoyed sharing one of his favorite meals, chicken-fried deer steak, with her and the rest of the family.

More than anything, Jay’s greatest joy in life was being Shelby’s dad. He was her rock, always in her corner whether they were out hunting, at a rabbit show, cheering her on in band or FFA, or just spending time together. He was so proud of the young woman she was becoming, and his love didn’t stop with her — when Shelby’s best friend Lucy Hatfield needed a place to land, Jay welcomed her in and loved her like his own.

He is preceded in death by his father, David Miller; paternal grandparents, Melvin and Juanita Miller; and maternal grandparents, O.R. and Helen Cox.

Jay is survived by his daughter, Shelby Miller of Haskell; the love of his life and soulmate, Jena Walker of Weatherford; daughters-in-love, Adalyn Walker of Weatherford and Lucy Hatfield of Haskell; mother, Sue Miller of Haskell; sister, Tammi Hawkins and husband Steve of Haskell; nieces, Lindsay Adams and husband Justin of Amarillo and Bailey Hawkins of Haskell; great-niece, Wilder Adams of Amarillo; uncle, Kenny Miller and wife Debbie of Snyder; numerous cousins, extended family, and a host of dear friends..
