Kathie Jean Boatman

Kathie Jean Boatman, 82, of Midland, passed away Friday, February 27, 2026 in Midland. Condolences may be made at www.haskellfuneralhometx.com.

Kathie was born on October 2, 1943 in Cameron, Texas, the daughter of the late Alvin William Dorner and Virginia Ida McCarty Dorner. Kathy was raised in Haskell and graduated from Cameron High School in 1962, pursued her Bachelor’s degree in education through Southwest Texas State University then obtained her Master’s Degree in Education through Abilene Christian University in Abilene. Throughout her career, she also obtained several additional certifications in the field of education.

Because of her deep love for children of all ages, she devoted 16 years to Special Education. She owned and operated a daycare and learning center in Haskell for several years before completing her career in education as a Diagnostician for Haskell and surrounding area schools. In that role, she worked closely with parents and educators, serving as a compassionate liaison to help ensure each child’s needs were thoughtfully met. After retiring from the school system, she went on to own and operate a pet grooming shop in Roscoe, Texas, for many years.

She had a tender heart for animals of every kind and often took in those needing extra care from baby birds and kittens to even tarantulas. She enjoyed crocheting and was a talented artist, generously sharing her paintings and handmade afghans with family. A woman of strong faith, she lived a life centered on service, and her greatest joy was caring for those she loved whenever she had the opportunity.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Barbara Jean Dorner; and brother, Wayne Dorner.

Kathie is survived by her life partner, Henry Sherman of Midland; her children: daughter, Alichia Warren and Paul of Midland and son, James Boatman and Tracillia Ballard of Merkel; grandchildren: Allie Sherman of Midland, Baron Hendrix and Amber of Midland, and Maison Boatman of Monahans; great grandchildren: Kyliegh Moats, Kyrian Moats, Baron Hendrix Jr, Athena Hendrix, Liam Hendrix, Jazmyn Thomas, Nathan Thomas, and Drake Martin; extended family and a host of dear friends.
