Mary Margaret Milburn passed away March 18, 2024 in Haskell, Texas. A celebration of Buffie’s life will be reflected with fellowship of family and friends starting at noon, followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00pm, Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Haskell Funeral Home, 2 Avenue D; led by Sister Renee Glass. The love of family and friends is life’s greatest blessing, and it’s the hope of the family that this time will be a reflection of that. Please feel free to come ready to truly celebrate Buffie’s life with spirited songs, memories, and recollections.

She was born May 7, 1940 in Alpine, Brewster, Texas to William B. Cochran and Margaret Sparrow Cochran. Her dad gave her the nickname of Buffie.

 

Mary Margaret graduated from Clint High School, Clint, Texas. She was a member of the National Honor Society and was Valedictorian of the Class of 1958. She received a BBA in three years from Sul Ross State College. She was a high school business teacher specializing in computers at Mountain View High School in the Clint ISD. She received a Master’s in Computer Science at age seventy from Sul Ross State University. Mary Margaret was a member of the National Society Daughters American Revolution and of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. 

 

Mary Margaret married Clifton J. Milburn on May 12, 1962 in El Paso, Texas. They had two sons, Joe Milburn of Lewisville, Texas and Carl Milburn and wife Lisa of Haskell, Texas. She is also survived by grandchildren, Dacia Carter and husband Brent of Edmond, Oklahoma; Deshea Sorrells and husband Doug of Haskell, Texas; Crystal Molina and husband Joe of Rule, Texas; Geoff Phemister and wife Chelsea of Canyon, Texas; great grandchildren, Haleigh Carter, Rylan Carter, Katelyn Casey, Raleigh Molina, Braylee Phemister, Brooks Phemister, Jake Casey, Annsley Sorrells and Adalyn Sorrells. 

 

Buffie is survived by two sisters, Maxine Hannsz Farmer of the Screwbean Ranch, Culberson County, Texas and Pamela Cochran of Haskell, Texas. She is also survived by sister-in-law Diane Cochran of Denton, Texas, nephews Cary Hannsz of Haskell, Texas, Casey Hannsz of Toyah, Texas, Blake Cochran (Leia) of San Antonio, Texas, niece Heather Cochran Anderson (Jackie) of Denton, Texas and her wonderful caregivers to whom we will forever be grateful.

 

Mary Margaret is preceded in death by her brother, Vaughn Cochran, and by her nephew, Joseph Sterling Hannsz. She is also preceded in death by her parents and by three women who also influenced her life, maternal great-aunt Laura Passmore, maternal aunt Fern Fields, and paternal aunt Evelyn Mellard.
