Peggy Lou Davenport Lane, 94, of Lubbock, passed away April 8, 2026. A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at First Methodist Church with Pastor Dusty Garison officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Cemetery under the direction of Haskell Funeral Home, 2 Ave D. Condolences may be made at www.haskellfuneralhometx.com.
Peggy was born November 28, 1931 in Memphis, Texas, to the late Bascomb Ewin Davenport and Ima Lou Reese Davenport. She graduated from Lakeview High School and later attended Texas Tech University. On May 30, 1953, she married Buddy Eugene Lane in Lakeview, Texas. He preceded her in death on October 19, 1994. Peggy was a devoted homemaker while also co-owning Lanco Insurance Co & managing The Warehouse in Stamford’s books until 2026. Throughout her life she also enjoyed part-time jobs at Wigwam Crafts, Personality Shop, and Lane Felker. She was a faithful member of the First Methodist Church of Haskell and later Lakeridge Methodist in Lubbock.
Peggy enjoyed painting and gardening and amazed her family with her sharp accounting skills and remarkable memory. She was an avid sports fan who never missed a game on ESPN. She also loved keeping up with her grandchildren and their many activities on her iPad, including baseball, team roping, motocross racing, singing, farming, ranching, golfing, drone piloting, hunting, and even rattlesnake rustling. She was especially known for her ability to keep track of everyone through her Find My Friends app, always staying connected to those she loved.
Peggy was spunky, witty, tough, and deeply loyal. She was very independent, strong-willed, and always optimistic. She never forgot a birthday, always marking the occasion with a thoughtful gift. Above all, she reminded her family each day of the importance of being humble and of recognizing the many blessings we are given each day.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Buddy Eugene Lane; son, Leslie Ray Lane; son-in-law, Tracey Stephen Kitten and sisters, Anna Katherine, Bobby, and Pat.
Peggy is survived by her children, Lugene Pickering and David, Lee Lane & Darla, and Lori Kitten; grandchildren, Chad Pickering and Andi, Clay Pickering, Kaci Stephens and Charles, Kaylee Lane, Weston Lane, Blane Kitten and Tara; Kash Kitten and Kelby, and Hayes Kitten; great-grandchildren, Brooks and Blair Pickering, Berkley and Miller Kitten, and Knox Kitten; sister-in-law, Nelda Lane; close friend, Ruby Turner; extended family and a host of dear friends.
