Santos Escobedo Zavala, 80, born March 18, 1938, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30am, Friday, June 8, 2018 at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father John Perikomalayil Antony, HGN officiating. Burial will follow in Knox City Cemetery under the direction of Haskell Funeral Home, 2 Avenue D. A Rosary will be held 7:00pm, Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Santa Rosa Catholic Church. Santos served our Lord as a Eucharistic Minister and as a RCIA director for Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Harlingen, TX, where she was a member. She enjoyed her ministry thoroughly in bringing young ones and adults to know and serve our Lord and Savior. In addition, she served her Haskell County Community as a member of the American GI form and helped to establish a free meals program at Carney ISD (KC-O'Brien CISD).
She was preceded in death by her father, Pedro Escobedo; mother, Emma Mireles; sisters, Nellie Duncan, Nicolasa Castro, daughter-in-law, Elma Garcia; grandsons, Luis Miguel Gutierrez, R.J. Pedroza and great-granddaughter, Isela Lopez.
Santos is survived by her husband, Juan C. Zavala of Harlingen, TX; sons, Eulalio Garcia of Odessa, TX; Domingo (Melissa) Garcia of Knox City, TX; Juan Garcia of Knox City, TX; Ricardo (Diana) Garcia of Grand Prairie, TX; daughters, Soyla Garcia of Lubbock, TX; Luzelida (Sammy) Rios of Knox City, TX; Elda Garcia of Knox City, TX; Concepsion (Jamie Lopez) Garcia of O'Brien, TX; Rosario (Teodoro) Gutierrez of Raymondville, TX; Remedios (Bobby) Casillas of Forney, TX; Yvonne (Rosendo) Cerda of Harlingen, TX; 42 grandchildren, 93 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends.
Pallbearers will be Steven Diaz, Teodoro Gutierrez, Jr., Joel Casillas, Reymundo Cerda, Michael Pedroza and Zachary Garcia.
Honorary Pallbearers are Jeffrey Hernandez, Richard Rincon, Christopher Garcia and Patrick Garcia.
