Obituary for Fidencio "Chief" Salas Escobedo
Fidencio “Chief” Salas Escobedo, 87, of Haskell, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am, Saturday, September 26, 2020 at St. George Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Kurumbel officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Cemetery under the direction of Haskell Funeral Home, 2 Avenue D. A Rosary will be held 7pm, Friday, September 25, 2020 at St. George Catholic Church with Deacon Julian Estrada officiating. Condolences may be made at www.haskellfuneralhometx.com.
Chief was born November 16, 1932, in Stamford, TX, the son of the late Benito Escobedo and Majuana Salas Escobedo. On January 5, 1955, he married Olga Garcia in Rotan, TX. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. In 1966, Chief opened Chief’s Paint & Body in Haskell, later retiring in 2006. He worked as an auto-body repairman for 58 years. Chief was a member of the Rotary and St. George Catholic Church. His favorite past-times included playing golf and watching sports, both live and on television.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Olga Garcia Escobedo in 1994; 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
Chief is survived by children, Louisa Howard and husband Hollis of Graham, TX; Cynthia Lindquist and husband John of Austin; Nati Escobedo and wife Sheri of Haskell, TX; Jackie Escobedo of Haskell; grandchildren, Christopher Howard, Holly Slater, Jeremiah Parker, Kristi Allen, Erin Sanders, Ashley Vasquez, Jacklyn Ochoa, Jerrica Escobedo, Jarred Escobedo, Johanna Lindquist; 16 great grandchildren; sister, Mercedez Perez of Arlington, TX; brother, Nati Escobedo of Crowley, TX; brother, Rufino Escobedo of Austin, TX, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends.
