Obituary for Gilbert E. Jimenez
Gilbert E. Jimenez, Sr., 90, of Weinert, TX, passed away, Sunday, June 18, 2017 in Abilene. A funeral service will be held 11:00am, Thursday, June 22, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Weinert with Bro. Dan Bullock officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Cemetery under the direction of Haskell Funeral Home, 2 Avenue D. A visitation will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2017 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at Haskell Funeral Home. Gilbert was born September 8, 1926 in Stockdale, TX, the son of the late Nicacio Jimenez and Francisca Echavarria Jimenez. On June 1947, he married Sophia Trevino. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Haskell. Gilbert enjoyed the outdoors, he loved to fish, hunt and trapping.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ruben Jimenez; grandson, Frank Jimenez, Jr.; 4 sisters, Celia Garcia, Maggie Jimenez, Elvirda Cabera and Bridgetta DeHoyos.
Gilbert is survived by his wife of 70 years, Sophia Jimenez of Weinert; children, Gilbert Jimenez, Jr., and wife Ruth of Wharton, TX; Nick Jimenez, Sr. and wife Eva of Haskell; Frank Jimenez, Sr., and wife Helen of Waxahachie, Mark Jimenez and wife Amy of Haskell; 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 9 great, great grandchildren. He is also survived by brother, Frank Jimenez and wife Sabina; sisters, Carolina Arana, Ella Rangel, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
