Obituary for Alfonso P. Garcia
Alfonso “Ponch” P. Garcia, 71, of Stamford, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2020 in Haskell. A funeral service will be held 10:00 am, Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at East Side Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Bunch officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 pm, at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene. A visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Monday, October 26, 2020 at Haskell Funeral Home, 2 Avenue D, Haskell, Texas 79521. Condolences may be made at www.haskellfuneralhometx.com.

Ponch was born January 3, 1949 in San Carlos, Mexico, the son of Andres Garcia and Jovita Pillado Garcia. He served in the Army during Vietnam, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and was an Expert M-16 & M-14. Ponch worked in the oil field and maintenance at the country club in Hobbs, NM. On April 4, 1997, he married Victoria Dye at Renewed Hope, in Hobbs, NM. He loved to lead worship, which he did at various churches for many years. He and Victoria would go to the nursing homes and play Praise and Worship music, as well as oldies, for the residents. Ponch loved music and played the guitar and harmonica. He was an artist, drawing portraits, enjoyed playing golf and fishing. He especially looked forward to his time with his family, spending time with his grandkids, especially. He loved the Lord.

He was preceded in death by his father, step-son, Larry Lee Hardiman on December 24, 2012; sister, Eva; brothers, Michael, Thomas and James.

Ponch is survived by his wife, Victoria Garcia of Haskell; mother, Jovita Padillo Garcia of Crane; daughters, Michelle Spicer and husband Ernest of Houston; Gracie Garcia and Hector of San Antonio; Monica Brown and husband Danny of San Angelo; Step-daughters, Lisa Norman and husband Craig of Hobbs, NM; Jana Wright and husband Allan of Allen; Step-son, Aaron Hardiman and wife Kristy of Georgetown; step-daughter, Angela Pung and husband Janes of Conroe. He is also survived by grandchildren, Tyson, Sage, Emrie, Alexis, Allyssa, Michael, Sydney, Camille, Rudy II, Sebastian, Larry Dale, Amber, Ashley, Connor, Gabby, Logan, Kayleigh, Kensley, Christopher, Alexis, Cadence, Bailey, Blake; 12 great grandchildren; siblings, Andy, Luis, Rosie, Saul, Hector, Rudy, Brenda, Norma, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of dear friends.
