Obituary for Clovis Lee Dever
Rev. Clovis Lee Dever, 82, of Haskell, passed away, Friday, September 20, 2019 in Haskell. A funeral service will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 28, 2019 at First Baptist Church with Elder Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Cemetery under the direction of Haskell Funeral Home, 2 Avenue D. Condolences may be made at www.haskellfuneralhometx.com.
Rev. Dever was born August 24, 1937, in DeKalb, Texas to the late Anzi and Elnora Talton Dever. He married Emma T. Haywood, June 8, 1963 and to this union he begat four boys and four girls. He later remarried. He is the father of eleven children; Grandfather of 15 and great grandfather of 11. He has 1 brother, Otis Dever, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends. He was a minister and later became a pastor of different churches, Church of God in Christ, as well as Baptist. He worked most of his life as a farmhand and was a self-employed lawn serviceman until his retirement. If anyone asked him how he was doing, his response would be: “Any better, I couldn’t stand it.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 siblings, Johnny Collier, Jr.; Lonnie Collier, Roy Lee Dever, Lillie Mae Wheeler and Zula Mae Scott.
