Obituary for Larry John Edwards

Larry John Edwards, 75, long time resident of Haskell, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2022, in Abilene, TX. A private family memorial will be held on Saturday, October 8th, 2022, in Paint Creek at the family farm. Condolences may be made at www.haskellfuneralhometx.com.


Larry was born October 11, 1946, in Haskell, Texas, the son of the late Larnce Green and Bessie May McMillion Green. He was a graduate of Paint Creek High School. Following 13 years of service in the United States Army, Larry worked as Chief of Police for the VA Hospital in Waco, TX until retirement.


He was a gentleman and a great patriot. As a disabled Vietnam Veteran, he took great pride in his years of service to his country and his family. Larry loved life and lived largely on his own terms. He had a kind and generous spirit as well as a great sense of humor. An avid golfer, Larry was known as “Wolfman” on the golf course. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was a motorcycle enthusiast. Larry loved people and enjoyed his many connections in the community always ending conversations with “see you later kiddo!”


He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Keith “Tex” Edwards.


Larry is survived by his daughter, Estelle Edwards-Allen and husband Clint Knowles of Haskell, TX; brothers, Rickie Green & wife Barbara of Sanger, TX, Bill Green & wife Lura of Lake Dallas, TX; cousin, David Green and his wife Melanie of Moore OK; grandchildren, Amber Kennedy & husband Scott of Haskell, TX, and James Hammond of Lubbock, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of dear friends. He is also survived by his faithful furry companions Bella and Freddie.


The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials in Larry’s memory be made to Wounded Warriors or Disabled American Veterans.
