Obituary for Lona Mae Phelps
Lona Mae Phelps, 91, of Haskell, TX, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2016. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at the First Assembly of God Church with Rev. J.C. Amburn officiating.
Burial will follow in Willow Cemetery under the direction of Haskell Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6 – 8 pm, Monday, August 8, 2016, at Haskell Funeral Home, 2 Avenue D in Haskell. Condolences may be made at www.haskellfuneralhometx.com.
Lona Mae, born January 21, 1925 in Weinert, Texas, was the daughter of the late Jack and Sallie Alexander Sanders. On October 6, 1943, she married Dudley Alfred Phelps. He died November 20, 1993.
She was a charter member of Foursquare Gospel Church and currently attended First Assembly of God. Lona Mae’s priorities were always her family and church. Any time the church doors were open, that’s where she would be, and any time family would gather, she would be there, too. She was known to her family and friends as Fluffy or Shorty. She will be greatly missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and 2 sisters, Eva Hardman and Martha Maupin.
Lona Mae is survived by her daughter, Elaine Campbell and husband Kenneth of Haskell; granddaughter, Karen Mitchell of Abilene; great grandchildren, Kendall Mitchell and Valerie of Abilene; Allison Mitchell and Tony of Abilene; great, great grandchildren, Alexavier, Adym, Anhelica, Keegan, Kayson, Lacoste and Angel.
She is also survived by her siblings, Oman “Bud” Sanders and wife Wilma of Coleman; Ethel Slade of Eagar, AZ; Andy Sanders and wife Marlene of Cross Plains; Marie Kirkland and husband B.D. of Ft. Worth; Sue Cox and husband Walter of Naples; Jacky Sanders and wife Sandra of Haskell; Scarlet Cole and husband Kenneth of Seguin; Rocky Sanders and wife Marsha of Abilene; brother-in-law, Bill Maupin of Odessa; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Howeth, Vicente Solano, James McFadden, Doyle Mitchell, Eugene Gibbs and David Parsons. Honorary pallbearers are Kendall Mitchell, Tony Navarrette, Danny Payne, Claude Payne, Robert Payne and Jerrel Payne.
