Ruby was born June 26, 1910 in Hamby, Texas, the daughter of the late Orlander Haskell Crews and Francis Jeannette McIlroy Crews. On April 4, 1931, she married B.C. Johnson in Taylor County. He preceded her in death in 1997. Ruby worked as an operator for Southwestern Bell, and later retired from Sears as a switchboard operator in 1974. She enjoyed canning and gardening. Ruby also sewed, often making clothes for her children and grandchildren and making sock monkeys. Fishing was her favorite pastime, fishing on local lakes, private ponds and the Texas coast. Spending time with her family was very important to Ruby. Her home was the hub of family events, where they often played games, such as, 42. She stayed active, even gambling in Law Vegas, NV, Ruidoso, NM and Stamford up to the age of 100. She was a member of Hamby Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, B.C. Johnson, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, daughter, LaJunta Farmer, and grandson Marshall Farmer.
Ruby is survived by her grandson, Guy Michael Farmer and wife Glenda of Clyde, TX; granddaughter, Michelle Rios and husband Jamie of Baytown, TX; 9 great grandchildren, Jamie Rios and wife Clair, Christine Rios, LaJunta Farmer, Michelle Morris and husband Ian, Corey Gillespie and wife Brenda, B.C. Farmer and wife Alberta, Tacy Farmer, Guy Farmer, Sara Farmer; 14 great, great grandchildren, 8 great, great, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
